Private Schools and PU Colleges in Karnataka Begin Early Admissions. The government had banned the admissions before the issuance of the official calendar events for the departments of pre-university education and private schools. However, there are many private colleges in North Karnataka that have begun conducting entrance tests. This has created a disturbance in the actual process of admission as parents are getting confused about whether they should apply for the early admission of their kid or not. Please read the complete article about how and why private schools and PU colleges have begun early admission in Karnataka.
Private Schools and PU Colleges in Karnataka Begin Early Admissions
The 2024-25 academic year is not yet completed and the government has not announced any official schedule about the admissions for the next academic year. Yet there are many private schools and pre-universities colleges in the state that have already started the admissions for 2025-26 in breach of the current regulations. The actual admissions process has been disrupted as a result of parents becoming uncertain about whether or not to apply for their child’s early admission.
The academic year 2025-26 will end on April 10 in Karnataka. After this, the Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) will issue an order concerning the enrollment of students for the academic year 2025-26. As a norm, schools and colleges in the state should start the enrollment process at this point alone. Parents are getting calls from many private colleges based in Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi, and other cities, pushing them to secure admission.
After the SSLC exam, the pre-university board had issued a 150-page guideline, explaining norms such as roster-wise students’ admission, cut-off date, first selection list and subsequent lists. The board has also issued notices to colleges that did not follow the roster last year.
Parents Views
A parent in Jayanagar, Bengaluru, urged, “Private educational institutions are exploiting parents and children by starting the admission process ahead of schedule. Some wealthy parents are also responsible for this. Parents are paying a fat fee to enroll their children in schools before the due date. This will only create unhealthy competition among children. The government should immediately curb this trend.”
A resident of Chamarajpet named Padmanabha said, “The government issues a notification regarding school enrollment in April. however, by then, private schools and PU colleges would have completed admission by paying double the fees. No roster rules are followed in these schools and colleges. Therefore, there is a situation where socially and economically backward children are not able to join these schools. The government is turning a blind eye to this.”
Mamta Kulkarni, a parent, said, “Earlier, hundreds of schools in Bengaluru came under the Right to Education Act-2009, so schools did not start enrollment without government orders. however, since the RTE Act was amended in the state in 2019, no private school in Bengaluru is on the list of neighborhood schools. Schools that have capitalized on this are starting enrollments ahead of schedule.”
A parent said, “My son is studying in Class X in a prestigious school in Banashankari II stage in the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) curriculum. However, the school management is already pressuring me to confirm my seat for class XI by paying an advance fee. if i fail to do so, my son will not be given a seat. So, I don’t know what to do.”
Parents’ Response to Complaint
The Karnataka State Private Schools and Colleges Parents’ Association Coordination Committee has decided to complain against private educational institutions that have begun admissions ahead of schedule. Yogananda, secretary of the committee, said, “A petition will be submitted to the chief minister to take legal action against errant schools and colleges.” After this, the principal of a private school stated, “Like every year, online applications have been invited from January this year too and the 31st is the last date for applying. There was demand from parents to invite applications. Students admission will be done after conducting an entrance test.”
The parents of almost every child do not support this scheme of private schools and colleges to earn extra money by scamming and threatening parents and kids. The government has officially instructed a complete review of schools that have started registrations early before the government order and after obtaining full information, those schools will be served notices.
